Photographing urban spaces helps to understand that a city is a place where conceiving and living may confront each other when the sense of resilience is not at the core of the process. A city is an exceptional place between the institutional and the informal, challenging public space appropriation. “Walking by” displays a series of 4 diptychs, showing the same institutional space, with or without people. By capturing the scene at a point in time, the absence of “walking by” persons shows how useless can an empty space be, whatever its institutional preponderance. Each diptych is printed on digital paper of 29,7 x 42 cm (11,7 x 16 ½ in) including argentic parts ever darkening in time.
